Tribute

Herschel Jardine passed away on December 31, 1998. I was asked to write something for the funeral service. God gave me these words.

A song writer wrote the words: "Death is an angel sent down from above, Sent for the buds and the flowers we love. Truly it’s so, for in Heaven’s own way, Each soul is a flower in the Master’s Bouquet."

The Lord descended from Heaven and took a stroll amidst the flowers,
He decided to pick the sweetest one and the one He picked was ours.
Herschel was such a faithful Christian and full of kindly deeds,
He would always lend a helping hand, to those who were in need.

The strait and narrow way he traveled,
The wealth of this old world never crossed his mind.
The Holy Bible was his greatest treasure,
And to all who knew him, he was one of a kind.
He always had a pleasant smile and a heart of purest gold,
I know without a doubt, no finer man this world could hold.

His golden heart stopped beating and his body is now at rest,
God had to break our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.
Herschel says to all of us who are left behind,
My steps were growing weary, I had leaving on my mind.
There’s a higher place awaiting, where the streets are paved with gold.
And there’s so much beauty over there, the half has never yet been told.

So if your road on earth gets rough and you’re feeling sad and blue,
Call upon the Name of Jesus, the One who truly loves you.
Ask Him to show you the way that leads to Eternal Life,
And we will meet again in Heaven, where God’s glory shines so bright.

I believe as Herschel came close to home and the lights of the City he could see,
The Lord held out His nail-scarred hands and said: "Herschel, It is Me."
I can almost hear Herschel say," Lord, for many years I’ve longed to see your face,
The one who bled and died for me, on Calvary’s cross took my place."

I feel that Herschel was welcomed home by the words, I love you so much my son,
You had to leave your family and friends behind, but your work on earth was done.
You’ve been a faithful servant, trials and sorrows you’ve gone through,
But my son, it’s over now, I have a beautiful crown waiting for you.
You left your earthly home to move to your home above,
You are going to be one of the sweetest flowers in my Beautiful Garden of Love.
