Tribute To A Friend

Jessie Jardine, a dear friend, passed away December 18, 1999, at the age of 68. I was asked by her daughter if I would write something for her mom’s funeral. She appreciated the poem that I had written for her dad. God gave me these words.

Malachi 3:17, reads, "And they shall be mine saith the Lord of Hosts, in that day when I make up my Jewels." One definition of a Jewel is this: "A person or thing that is very precious." Jessie was a Jewel! She received the call from Her Saviour to come up higher and I believe if we could have heard His words, they would be:

"Come home my child and close by me you’ll always be,
You have been a special Jewel and very precious to me.
Your days of worry and care are over now, you are coming to live with Me on high.
Your family and friends that you left behind, you can meet them again bye and bye."

It was a beautiful morning as Jessie strolled down the Golden Avenue,
I believe she looked into the face of her Saviour and said, "Lord is it really you?
Just show me your hands that were scarred for me, I won’t ask for anything more,
I’m afraid I'll wake up and it will be only a dream, I have to know for sure."

I believe Jessie saw Herschel with tears all gone and a heart that seemed so free,
In his robe of white and smiling face, he was as happy as could be.
He said; "I’ve been waiting for your coming," then he led her to her mansion fair,
Jessie's face shined like a star in the morning, she received an answer to prayer.

Jessie was always loving and kind and had a little smile,
Her home and family meant so much to her, it was a pleasure to visit a while.
She was sincere and true, many precious memories she left behind,
I feel honoured to have known her and to say, "she was a friend of mine."

She was a person who cared, shared our joys and burdens too,
A friend who would lend a helping hand, in whatever she could do.
She was one of God’s most precious gifts and that she’ll always be,
She had a trust in the One who died for us all, that we could be set free.

She loved her Saviour and in the palm of His hand is where she wanted to be,
Her Bible was her anchor in times of trouble and also in times of need.
The tears she shed will be a memory, a great heritage she left behind,
Her heart was open, and overflowed with love, so beautiful and kind.

Loving kindness and understanding was worth more to her than gold,
She always felt the need to help and pray for others, as her inner beauty glowed.
Jessie was not caught up in selfish gain; all she asked for was good health,
Her prayers that she prayed, were more precious to her than wealth.

When she was faced with trials and decisions, a prayer warrior she could be,
She trusted the words of our beautiful Saviour, "I will never leave thee."
Jessie is going to be missed by all and when we think of her our hearts will cry,
But we can take courage in knowing, that we will meet her again up on High.
